ELECTROMOBILITY AS A PILLAR OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSITION IN MEXICO CITY

Abstract:
Mexico City is currently undergoing a transition toward cleaner energy sources, with electromobility playing a fundamental role. This process involves shifting from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric-powered units, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution.
The objective of this work is to raise awareness among high school students, providing them with an introduction to electromobility and its associated benefits. To achieve this, a structured methodology was implemented:
- Initial Diagnosis: An assessment was conducted to determine the students' prior knowledge of electromobility and public transportation in general.
- Comparative Efficiency Analysis: A technical comparison was established between the performance curves of internal combustion engines versus electric motors, emphasizing the drastic reduction in emissions and vehicle noise.
- Case Studies: Documentation from the National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy (CONUEE) was utilized to showcase successful electromobility implementations within Mexico.
- Strategic Integration: Finally, the technology was linked to the Mobility Hierarchy, demonstrating that electromobility must be integrated with efficient road space management to maximize its positive impact on the city.
The results demonstrated increased awareness among students, who successfully identified the fundamental components and operational advantages of electric buses. In the long term, this educational intervention aims to foster vocational interest in the fields of energy and mobility engineering, aligning with current technological development needs.Keywords:
