Abstract:
Education is a very important instrument of development in all society. In Nigeria, education is embraced as a panacea for poverty, illiteracy and crime in society to mention some.Nigeria agrees with the rest of the world towards support for innovation to achieve Education For All (EFA)Goal and Sustainable Development Goals 4 by 2030 for her citizens. However, many researchers reports of ineffective teaching and poor learning abounds and thus presenting a poor impression of the diagnostic evaluation role in teaching and learning. Through use of secondary data and desktop analysis, the paper justifies the importance of helping secondary school students adjust to good study habits, make use of memory strategies for effective learning outcome. This has become expedient for educators stakeholders because poor learning outcome can have negative impact on future academic progress and to some extent affect quality of life and means of livelihood. As result if this,evaluation of teacher-student outcome also become critical factor to determine teaching effort and learning effectiveness. The paper position is that teachers understanding of their role in scaffolding the teaching learning process is crucial for a worthwhile teacher- student outcome. The Coladarci (1973) teaching learning procedure s leveraged as a theoretical model to support the proposition in the paper. The study concludes that helping students adjust to good study habits, make use of memory strategies and regular evaluation of teacher -student activities would enhance learning outcomes. Keywords:
