Abstract:
Since the end of the 20th century and in the first decades of the twenty-first century, the increase in migratory movements toward western societies, as a direct consequence among others, of globalization, has revealed all the cracks in the fallacy of monoculturalism.
In the educational field, the composition of Spanish classrooms does not substantially differ from other European countries, since both in Spain and in Europe notices the increasing presence of students from different geographical and cultural origins. In our country, we can find students from different cultures, mostly from Asia, Central America, and Africa. In the case of Spain, the different Autonomous Communities with different languages from Spanish (Catalan, Galician, Basque), with outstanding presence in the educational curricula, should be specially considered.
With the essential purpose of addressing on a committed dialog between cultures living together in our classrooms, arises the university research project "Literary Education and Interculturalism", funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, with duration of 3 years and composed of 11 professors from different Spanish universities who teach mainly in Faculties of Education. The granting of this aid was the recognition of a pioneering research’s line in the university field of Literature teaching, not worked so far. The project assumes the relevance of reading comprehension and literary formation for pupils of different educational levels as a basis for the construction of a multicultural society
Literature allows the approximation to the Other from a perspective that is not discriminatory and in this sense, and makes the development of important competencies for the exercise of an active citizenship much easier, such as intercultural communicative competence or the same literary competence, understood in broad sense.
From this perspective, basic project objective lies in the development of various pillars outlined by Delors, in his Report through an integrative approach of intercultural education in the curriculum for non-university levels from the literary education. Along the communication, we explain more details about the secondary objectives of the project, as well as the methodology used and the results obtained after the development.
