Abstract:
The article considers a possible choice of professional competence formation of non-linguistic MA training course students who have received a bachelor's degree in a Russian university and are proceeding with their studies in a master's program. Given the limited study time, it is proposed to focus on improving the skills of various types of reading on the material of texts that introduce the specifics of research activity, and developing the competence of academic writing on the example of such genres as, summaries, sinopses and abstracts. The structure and content of the manual used for these purposes are outlined. It is based on the techniques of learning, taken from the technology of critical thinking development adapted to the needs of Russian education. The role of the strategic program for constructing students' own statements is assigned to the text. A detailed consideration of its logical and semantic structure allows to carry out a variety of operations with it: reduction, generalization, extraction of required information, transformation from a monologue into a dialogue and vice versa. The studied text is supplemented with information that expresses a different view of the problem under discussion. In such a way we activate the analytical capabilities of students, develop their associative and logical thinking.

In the course of work, the following skills at a productive level are formed:
- the ability to apply the knowledge previously obtained in new situations (transfer of skills);
- the ability to carry out linguistic and semantic analysis of the text (finding errors in the logic of reasoning, distinсtion between causes and consequences, etc.);
- the ability to synthesize the acquired knowledge (writing a summary, drawing up a plan, an algorithm of actions aimed at solving the task;
- the ability to evaluate the actions and statements set out in the text being studied, to critically evaluate their own educational activities and actions in everyday life, as well as the behavior and statements of other people.

Thus, the methods used in our work contribute to the development of students' reflective capacities, and help them master the ability to learn independently.
