Abstract:
This paper describes the challenges and solutions encountered while interdisciplinary developing a digital Pentomino app aimed at supporting geometry learning, making it possible to combine different and enriching perspectives on the subject matter. The potential of digital media of allowing adaptive algorithmic feedback on learner actions is focused on in this paper with respect to to what extent and in which ways it is possible to help learners to identify situations which help them solve a geometrical problem, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, how to algorithmically create situations in which such a hypothesis formation is more likely. This genuinely digital approach, which could not be accomplished with purely analog means, is expected to enable learners to solve even difficult geometric problems by themselves and improve their skills regarding spatial perception and spatial thinking.
