Abstract:

In this paper, we approach the teaching of Statistical Demography from a new perspective. In particular, the creation of mortality tables which usually was made from the incorporation of formula in the Excel spreadsheet. This was leading a huge waste of time: it was necessary that university students knew the particularities of the above-mentioned software, which was making indispensable a series of previous lessons before going on to the explanation of the above-mentioned table. Statistical Demography is given in different fields of study, in which the student does not have great computer knowledge. Using Visual Basic tools, these disadvantages have been avoided since the mortality table arises from automatic form; it is only necessary to introduce the information and press a button. The time that was used to computer tools can be dedicated to interpretation of results and its specific applications.
