Abstract:

The linkage of the university education with practice has some shortages both in Slovakia and other countries. According to the current investigations realised in Slovakia only five percent of the students are satisfied with the linkage of the activities during the university study process with the practical needs or practice. This phenomenon is not typical only for Slovakia; also the EU registers this fact and therefore in the framework of the programme for modernising the university study one of its main interests is the strengthening of the collaboration between the university, the research and entrepreneurial communities. The collaboration with the employers can increase the relevance of the university institutions´ study programmes as well as the possibilities of graduates´ employment. The reform of the university education should enable the students to acquire skills and experience through the activities based on the real problems including the study at the workplace.

The Faculty of Security Engineering of the University of Žilina that is a management and technical faculty and has been active in the system of the university education for more than sixty years responds to the current trend. It provides education in the area of security with an emphasis on preventing various types of crises of the natural character, economic character, company crises, accidents, etc. as well as on their solution. All of this is provided in the framework of the accredited study programme Crisis Management for the need of the entrepreneurial subjects and public administration. In the framework of this profile the faculty continuously makes efforts to link the theory with practice, however, in spite of that there is still enough space for improvements.

The goal of this article is to evaluate the results of implementing the practical activities to the university education in the area of the risk management and crisis management at the Faculty of Security Engineering of the University of Žilina in Slovakia and to design other solutions (approaches, possibilities) to make them more effective. The designed solutions are based on the knowledge and experience of the authors in the area of the risk management and crisis management as well as investigations realised at the faculty.

The solution proposals are usable for innovations of the content of the study programme Crisis Management at the Faculty of Security Engineering of the University of Žilina and also at other universities of similar orientation and also for other study programmes where we can find interdisciplinary character of the given area of study.
