Abstract:
Folk culture forms an integral part of the cultural heritage of every country. Primary school pupils in the Czech Republic learn about folk traditions in the Czech language and history. Traditional folk crafts are also an important area in the history of every nation. Pupils in primary school learn about old and folk crafts mainly in history. In the Framework Educational Program for primary schools in the educational area Man and the World of Work, pupils learn about folk customs, traditions and, above all, crafts. Old crafts in primary school work activities develop pupils' skill, creativity and also the relationship to work, the relationship to their homeland and to traditions.

In the last 30 years, the development of manual dexterity in elementary school has been neglected. As a result, there is a shortage of artisans and manual workers.

The article maps folk crafts in the Czech Republic in the region known as Podkrkonoší. The research carried out at primary schools in this region determines whether pupils at primary schools are introduced to the traditions and folk crafts of the Krkonoše Mountains. Furthermore, the research determines whether pupils learn some folk crafts in work activities or at least can try these crafts. The results of the research will be presented in the article as well as proposals for activities and innovations.
