Abstract:
The digital audio certification and training system in Taiwan was firstly emerged in 2005 by the author, who successfully introduced the industrial standard digital audio system, Avid Pro Tools, and its well-developed training and education system to Taiwan.
Before 2005, the only way for young students and passionate fresh audio enthusiasts to learn audio recording, editing, mixing and mastering techniques in Taiwan was merely to join project recording studios, and then just rely on fate to meet the chance having senior engineers’ sharing and teaching of the professional knowledge and practical techniques.
In the meantime, there had been a situation that some audio engineers in Taiwan just knew how to make recording pieces by working with the habits learnt from the seniors in studios, but didn’t really know why the habits make the audio sounds good. Those engineers found out that by attending a proper and well-designed audio training course, many just know-how techniques then became know-why practical and understandable knowledge to them. The learning experience was totally far beyond their initial imagination that audio engineers firstly thought that by attending a few hours of training course, it was somehow not possible to know and learn any thing new. But the fact was, many engineers found out that they can learn loads of audio knowledge and theories even from the very basic level of the audio courses.
For young students in Taiwan, especially in audio and musical associated university departments, the designed audio courses from industry led students to learn audio techniques and knowledge well. The learning experience was totally different comparing to the past because it was somehow not possible for young students to learn audio recording techniques unless they join recording studios, which was a difficult task to students. Also, the Avid Pro Tools digital audio training courses not only gave them a proper way to learn audio techniques, but also provide them a chance to get audio certificates, which was a powerful help in both career searching and applying for the admission to higher education.
From the six years of teaching audio certification training courses, the author found out that both professional and non-professional audio enthusiasts were changing the impressions and attitudes toward attending the audio courses. This was observed from the attendance of the types of trainees that at the beginning of the training courses in 2005, the number of professional trainees that attended the course was far more than non-professionals. But in the recent three years, the situation was in contrary that professional trainees showed less interest attending training courses.
The phenomenon of the interest changing in different types of attendees was reflecting to the new audio training that strike against the old audio teaching system. It was a good chance to review and seek the possibility to improve the newly developed audio education industry. Innovation was under planning to raise the service quality of the audio teaching system in Taiwan, and those experiences were worth sharing from the author.
