Abstract:
The paper deals with the attitudes of future English language teachers towards information technologies and their implementation in English language teaching. The research focuses mainly on integrating information technologies while using literary texts in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) classrooms. The study involved non-native English language students preparing for the role of teachers of English as a foreign language at the lower and upper secondary levels of education. The improvement of teaching at the tertiary level of education requires the analysis of students' skills. It is very important to focus on their ability to work with information technology as information technologies can be characterised as inseparable components of the 21st-century learner’s life and education. The paper deals with the practical experience of future English language teachers in implementing information technologies while using literary texts in EFL classrooms. The paper analyses the data from questionnaires filled in by English language students (master's degree). The questionnaire consisted of fifteen open-ended and close-ended questions with a five-point Likert rating scale. The choice of respondents was carried out as a selection of compact groups. The research referred to a low level of implementation of information technologies while using literary texts in EFL classrooms. What is more, according to respondents' answers, information technologies are not used effectively enough to support the achievement of lesson objectives. In this context, there is a need for continuous development of students' pedagogical skills, as well as their awareness of various ICT programmes. This research will contribute to the innovation of Future Teachers' Education.
