ROLE OF NURSING STAFFS ON THE LEARNING OF NURSING STUDENTS IN CLINICAL SETTINGS

Abstract:
Introduction: Clinical learning is an important section of the nursing education. In clinical setting, students use practically what they have learned theoretically. Nursing staffs can have an effective role on nursing students' clinical learning. Nursing students spend long term learning in clinical settings, thus the nursing staffs are the best group to train them for their next role.
Methods: This study was a descriptive survey. Sampling method was census. Samples were 104 nursing students of Guilan university of medical science. Research tool was a questionnaire about the role of staff nurses in students’ clinical learning which was filled by students. The questionnaire content validity has been approved by specialists and its reliability had been performed by Chronbakh Alfa (89%). After data gathering, data was analyzed by SPSS software.
Results: Findings indicated that the majority of nursing students believed that staff nurses had important role on their clinical training. (completely agree: 63/5%, agree:35/6%), Also to response to the subject: “imply an environment good for their clinical learning”, findings showed (completely agree: 60/6%, agree 38/5%, and to the subject: “self esteem increase with support of nurses”, (completely agree: 75%, agree: 21/2%), and to the subject: “efficiency of student increase with support of nurses in new situation”, findings showed (completely agree: 67/3%, agree:28/8%).
Conclusion: The findings indicate on the importance of the clinical staff nurses’ role on nursing students’ clinical learning. In addition, the role of educational supervisors should be highlighted on these settings to promote the students’ learning and better caring of clients. Moreover, training of these nursing staffs for enhancing the effectiveness of students training is recommended in a Preceptor ship system.
