Abstract:
The coexistence of the majority with the Roma minority in Slovakia is marked by frequent animosities, and these are also manifested in the area of acculturation. The Slovak education system strives to bring the education of Roma pupils from marginalised communities as close as possible to the education of majority pupils. In practice, this means limiting as much as possible their education in schools where they are significantly overrepresented. The way to do this is through inclusive education, which is beginning to have a more prominent position in Slovak education. Despite the problems that arise in the inclusive education of marginalised Roma pupils, we are trying to implement it effectively in practice. The greatest shortcomings are in the east and south of the Slovak Republic, where most Roma live. In our research conducted in 2022-2023, we compared the human figure drawings of two groups of Roma pupils in the third year of primary school - pupils in inclusive education and pupils in segregated education. The analysis of the drawings confirmed the influence of inclusive education on the level of reasoning abilities of the Roma pupils studied.
