Abstract:
Studentsˈ learning is in a fundamental way influenced by the choice of learning resources, their content aspect and especially didactic aspect. But it is shown that even the type of media – printed or digital significantly comes into the process of adopting findings. In recent years we are observing the new trend in Czech schools – a huge usage of digital resources of a different kind. And it is frequently regardless of their source, quality of processing or explicit efficiency of students' learning. That is why we are asking research question “How could learning resources help during studentsˈ studying and what strategies are students using during overcoming difficulties of learning".

This communication presents partial results of more extensive research which is trying to define supportive elements in learning resources facilitating studentsˈ studying. The aim of the article is to describe what particularly helps or does not help students to learn from the textbooks and other teaching and learning resources and to find out the studentsˈ preferences in relation to the type of learning resource (printed or digital) and its pedagogy structure. There were semi-structured interviews with pupils of eighth grade from 11 lower secondary schools used as a method of this research. The research sample consisted of 20 pupils who answered 14 main questions. Their answers were during the interviews evolved into partial specific questions. With the assent of the children and their parents, all these interviews were recorded and interpreted in detail by means of open and axial coding. The research has revealed that the primary teaching and learning resource was mostly the textbook. The students mentioned principally the internet as a secondary source. Almost nobody explained the students what is the best way of learning from the textbooks. Only a few teachers prepared their handouts completely without the work with textbooks in the lessons.
