Abstract:
Augmented reality technology is one of the key technologies of digital transformation in both industrial and non-industrial areas. It allows you to link the physical environment with virtual elements and thus simplify the understanding of individual elements and processes. This article presents the application of augmented reality technology that can be implemented in the areas of teaching and learning. With the use of augmented reality within teaching, it is possible to offer students a more entertaining and faster form of learning, especially thanks to the visualization of elements. Improving spatial perception is also a benefit of augmented reality. This is especially useful for students with limited experience in working with technical documentation. This article deals with the creation of an augmented reality application in the Vuforia Studio software and the use of augmented reality during the teaching of students. In the article, a model of the gearbox is used to represent the use of augmented reality, which consists of a shaft, gears, and bearings. Before creating an augmented reality application, it is necessary to create the technical documentation of the gearbox in the Creo Parametric software. For a better understanding of the model, an animation of the kinematics of each part was created in Creo Illustrate software. Due to the fact that the softwares Vuforia Studio, Creo Parametric and Creo Illustrate are developed by PTC, it was possible to use systems integration to simplify the work. After finishing the application in Vuforia Studio it is possible to work with it in augmented reality using mobile phones with Android and iOS operating systems. For the use of augmented reality application on a mobile phone using application Vuforia View, it is necessary to capture a marker like a QR code with the phone camera. The augmented reality application consists of three different scenes. In the first scene, students can view the individual parts displayed above the relevant projections within technical documentation, obtain basic information about the parts and view the sections of the parts. The second scene shows the movement of individual parts of the set. In the last scene, it is possible by pressing the buttons to display the modeling process of the part in the Creo Parametric software. Augmented reality can also be used in online teaching during COVID-19 as a complementary technology in teaching, where it helps students to better understand the subject matter.
