Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to investigate the practices of digital game developers in order to identify criteria for developing Educational Digital Games. The paper discusses different types of digital games and analyses not only their advantages and disadvantages, but also the negative effects and possible dangers which might occur for young people playing them. Furthermore, the paper discusses more specific educational digital games, and analyses their benefits for the educational process. The authors also consider the ethical background of computer games, which are used for educational purposes. n the next chapter, the attention shifts to the development of educational games where he describes the development process. In the following chapter, the attention shifts to modelling and design of digital educational games. The authors focus on modelling software, which is an important part of digital game development and modelling. The aim of the educational digital games is not only to arouse and maintain the user's interest, but especially to learn something new, to practice what was already mastered, or to improve some of the skills. In conclusion, the paper presents proposals for criteria that educational games should meet. The challenge for the developers of educational games is to offer games which are understandable, time-saving and easy to use for the teacher, while meeting all the demanding criteria summarized in the paper.
