THE CHALLENGES OF E-LEARNING FOR ALBANIAN SOCIAL SCIENCES: THE CASE OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND POLITICAL SCIENCE COURSES IN UNIVERSITY EDUCATION

E. Hide

European University of Tirana (ALBANIA)
The process of transition and transformation in which Albania has entered since the beginning of the ’90s with the consolidation of its democratic institutions, has embraced nearly all structures of education. The last decade has witnessed a lot of changes in higher education legislation and has opened the way for private higher educational institutions, especially universities. This increased the number of individuals registering for a Bachelor’s degree and/or Master degree. Also the Bologna process that was the benchmark of all these changes, served as a point of reference and a guide for all institutions of higher or university education. But until now there are some unaddressed issues. One of them is the case of introducing E-learning, because the university education system has developed until now on full-time and part-time diplomas. This paper will aim to study the challenges, possibilities, opportunities and the contribution that E-learning can offer for the actual stage of Albanian higher education standards. We will focus our analysis on the way this can be even more easily applicable for the Albanian social sciences, such as Political Sciences and/or International Relations. We will explore and push forward the arguments in favor of such applications and will bring about recommendations of a legislative and academic nature, for policymakers and universities alike. We will highlight the advantages this kind of education has, especially in a developing society like Albania, the modernization it brings for students and teachers alike, and the way it can develop outside our borders, for the Albanian communities throughout the world, without affecting the teaching and learning quality, thus contributing for a new generation of well-educated Albanians.
