Abstract:
The concept of leadership became very important in the attempts to describe and understand the reality of contemporary schools. One of the key issues in the area of educational leadership is the issue of key competencies of educational leaders. During the last decades many authors have tried to describe the complexity of such competencies. In the presented research the author refers to the competency model that consists of five areas of competencies: educational, cultural, technological, interpersonal and intrapersonal.

The presented research tries to find out which competencies are less important from the perspective of active school leaders. They were asked to look at the list of leadership competencies (10 competencies in each area randomly mixed on the list) and assess which are less important from the perspective of their work as school leaders. The group that took part in the survey consisted of four subgroups of school leaders from different types of school (kindergarten, primary, secondary, upper-secondary) to determine if there are differences in thinking of school leaders at different levels of education.

The results provide some interesting information that can be used in the process of transforming the curricula for courses preparing school leaders for their role.
