Abstract:
The Universities have a crucial role to instruct learners to become successful professionals. In the context of European Higher Education Area (EHEA), two of the main objectives are to encourage the ability to take control of one’s own learning and acquire the know-how of the tools as the information and communication technologies (ICT). Educational methodologies as collaborative work and peer learning are used to achieve these objectives. In this methods the students interact with other students to achieve educational goals while the creativity and innovative attitudes are developed with the use of techniques based on ICT.

During their professional carrier, engineers should solve problems or exercise concerned to their field of work. Through the higher education the develop of the superior cognitive abilities, such as critical thinking, should be stimulated. In this way, the traditional explanation where the teacher solves the problems on the blackboard should be improved by active learning. The students should engage with the resolution of the problems.

In order to stimulate the critical thinking on students, the cooperation and collaboration, they had to produce an audio-visual material showing how to resolve the exercise. In our context the experience was in a Material Science course in the degree of Industrial Technologies Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Electronic Engineering at the Escuela Politécnica Superior de Algeciras at University of Cadiz. Results of setting this exercise into practice is discussed.
