Abstract:
The exciting and challenging future of work debate is permeating the university lecture room, the global workplace and the research academy. One aspects of that discussion revolves around the preparation of university students for the future world of work. The discourse includes the legal, HR and ethical implications of the rapidly changing world of work, artificial intelligence and automation, virtual and augmented reality, remote working and robotics among others.

In the 2019-2020 academic year, the Technological University Dublin introduced a ground-breaking, national first, Future of Work module, into the curriculum of the BSc. in Human Resource Management. The module aims to prepare the next generation of virtual team members and managers for the rapidly evolving world of work. The teaching methodology used is multi modal delivery, by using practices such as blended learning, remote delivery and face to face interaction thereby creating a ‘learning-by-doing’ experience. The module also aims to prepare the students for the virtual workplace, discussing contemporary and future trends, relationship management and soft-skills for managers in the virtual world.

This paper presents the evaluation of the multi modal delivery aspect of the module and is of value to educators, students, employers and policy makers.
