Abstract:
The special education organizations at the State of Qatar provide different services for individuals with disabilities. Those different services provide through several level governmental, non governmental and private services. Al-Noor Institute for the blind in the state of Qatar is a nonprofit organization. The Institute was established to serve the individuals with visual impairment both blind and low vision. The Institute offers variety of educational programs to these individuals according their ages, abilities, and needs. Al-Noor Institute emphasizes on using assistive technologies because these technologies play important rules in developing the life of individuals with visual impairment. Moreover the Institute invented some educational aids to be used. The purpose of this paper is to describe three objectives. First the paper will describe the educational programs that are offered by Al-Noor Institute. Second the paper will discuss the different services and assistive technologies that are provided. Third the paper will identify the educational aids that are invented at Al-Noor Institute and view some issues and challenges face the field of assistive technology for individuals with visual impairment.
