Abstract:
This is intended to be an oral presentation. The focus of this presentation is the need to demonstrate how classroom teachers, at all levels, can enhance their teaching by utilizing a hands-on approach to teaching. When working with pre-service teachers, we often talk about the need to keep students actively engaged in the lesson through the use of manipulatives or other materials that allow students to gain a deeper understanding of a given concept while failing to provide them with specific examples of how to accomplish this goal. This presentation focuses on enhancing the undergraduate college experience by not only encouraging faculty members to utilize a hands-on approach to teaching but also by providing them with strategies for doing so.
