Abstract:
Currently, there exists a large number of diverse resources and materials for learning foreign languages, which makes it possible to choose the optimal path depending on the purpose, level and stage of training. Learning a foreign language is impossible without improving listening. Listening is a complex discoursive process consisting in the perception and understanding of foreign-sounding speech. In the context of the informatization of linguistic education, the regular use of new information and communication technologies in teaching a foreign language is of particular importance. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that listening is an integral part of teaching a foreign language at school, as well as by the fact that today the problem of teaching listening at the senior stage is insufficiently studied and requires further resolution.

The purpose of this article is to study the features of teaching listening in English (at the senior stage) and the possibility of using relevant video materials during the course.

Research methods: theoretical (study and analysis of psychological and pedagogical, linguistic, and methodological literature on this problem, analysis of pedagogical experience) and empirical (experimental work to test the effectiveness of exercises with video materials in the process of developing listening skills).
During the course of the study, it was possible to prove that the use of tasks developed on the materials of authentic cinema and aimed at developing listening skills and abilities in English among students of high school age has a positive effect on the results, motivation and activity of students.

The experimental study showed that the percentage of the quality of the mastered material increased in the experimental group in comparison with the control group. Therefore, it can be argued that when using authentic cinematography materials in English lessons while developing listening skills in preparation for the Unified State Exam, the level of motivation to study among high school students has increased.

The results of our research can contribute to the further resolution of the problems associated with teaching listening at the senior level in a general education institution. In addition, the materials of the work can be used by teachers in their English lessons, as well as serve as additional material for preparing students for practical classes.

Further research involves the study of the features of teaching listening at the middle stage.
