Abstract:
Building information modeling (BIM) and its implementation became nowadays one of the main and important keys of success in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry’s domain. Despite the huge benefits of that digital technology transition in terms of saving time, reducing cost and managing facilities, BIM adoption in Qatar remains soft and not enough sufficient against the needs and the requirements of the mega projects running in the country i.e. QEZ (Qatar Economic Zones), Lusail Smart City, Stadiums for FIFA world cup 2022, etc. Due to the lack of knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s) specific to BIM processes and protocols among professionals as well as the lack of competent BIM graduated injection to the AEC industry, universities and tertiary institutions have to include in their curricula BIM education programs in order to serve and support both industry’s needs and student’s prospects to be equipped with specific BIM competencies. This paper is seeking to adopt and develop a competency-based BIM educational framework, supporting the BIM concepts’ and workflows’ incorporation in Qatar higher education system. Using a cooperative learning approach “COOP”, the competency-based BIM educational framework will support and prepare both current and future industry practitioners. Keywords:
