Abstract:
This work builds on a complex experiment implemented with high-throughput bioreactor-process analytical technology and a novel off-line analyzer, employed to study the effect of cell medium formulation on cell metabolism and cell culture performance. The experimental platform and the data generated from it served as a foundation for creating educational multimedia learning material, relevant to cell culture engineering and data analytics.
The effects of three medium formulations were examined on Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell growth and monoclonal antibody (IgG) production. An understanding of the experimental platform can be gained from animations, videos and graphics assembled to describe its components and their working principles. The analysis of the experiment enables the introduction of various topics, including cell growth kinetics, yield coefficients, substrates consumption rate, metabolic products formation rate and IgG specific productivity. The determination of these parameters requires an understanding of 1st-order equations, curve integration, growth modeling and statistical significance, for which learning tools for non-specialists are provided, as part of this work. Keywords:
Cell culture engineering, data analytics, multimedia.
