Abstract:
Today's children and young adults don't know the world without the internet and social networks. They use information and communication technologies as if to the manner born, and often have a positive attitude toward new technologies. Excessive use of technologies can easily get out of control, smoothly turning into an addiction. Information and communication technologies greatly influence the way children and young adults learn, access knowledge, spend their free time, and make new acquaintances. Meeting new people in virtual space brings serious risks, which combined with children's lack of good judgment, naivety, and innocence is a recipe for disaster.
This article aims to sum up the experiences with negative behaviors of child aggressors in cyberspace, which are collected in a questionnaire survey for children aged 9 to 16 in the Slovak Republic. The contribution of our work is twofold. Firstly, we identify the motivation of the aggressors to act abusively. Secondly, we point out the problems that are encountered in practice when fighting cyberbullying, either in schools or the police. However, the consequences on children that are victims of sexual abuse are much more severe. In this article, we first point out negative behaviors where a child's peer is the aggressor, which mostly takes the form of cyberbullying. Secondly, we take a look at an issue which is more serious by a few orders of magnitude, child sexual abuse. It is a form of child abuse that can be committed remotely, such as keeping child pornography, being present at a child pornography show, or distribution of child pornography. Processes for exposing, proving, and documenting the investigation of child sexual abuse are among the most difficult, considering technical, professional, and time aspects. In the empirical part of this article, we focus on statistical indicators of the development and the current situation of child sexual abuse in the IP domain belonging to the Slovak Republic.
Based on the current situation and its development, we emphasize the importance of prevention and the need for special education of children, parents, family members, as well as teachers that partake in upbringing and education of children. Education on this topic should help recognize attacks of the aggressors and react appropriately when the aggressive behaviors first manifest.
