Abstract:
The education of industrial engineers must meet the changing demands of the industrial environment and include a balance between technical expertise, soft skills and ethical aspects. Preparing graduates for successful careers in industrial engineering is a responsible task for universities, especially in countries where industrial production is the domain. As new manufacturing techniques and technologies emerge, industrial engineers need to familiarise themselves with new ways of working. Education must emphasise practical experience with these technologies and provide theoretical knowledge of their application in an industrial setting. In addition, industrial development is increasingly focusing on sustainability and environmentally friendly practices. Industrial engineers must therefore also take into account life cycle assessment, renewable energy systems and waste reduction techniques. Their training must incorporate sustainability principles into the curriculum and emphasise their importance in industrial decision-making. This paper presents precisely these new trends and requirements for the education of industrial engineers. The paper presents the results obtained from research on the education of industrial engineers at Tench universities in Slovakia.
