Abstract:
The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) is the university of a bilingual society. Its statutes provide that Basque and Spanish are the two official languages at the university (Decreto 322/2003), although the possibility of using additional languages as languages of instruction is considered. So, the Multilingualism Programme was launched in the 2005/06 academic year with the aim of fostering the presence of foreign languages in the academic offer of the University of the Basque Country. Currently, a total of 120 subjects are offered in English and another 8 in French.
With the creation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), the trend is that the presence of English and French as languages of instruction is increasing.
In this communication we present the experience in teaching Linear Algebra using French-medium instruction at the first course of Industrial Engineering during the first semester of the academic year 2009-2010.
