Abstract:
Formative assessment is an important milestone in the learning cycle that helps to design the subject delivery for the educators. With the advent of the mobile technology and internet, innovative tools are being used for the assessment purpose, which are giving positive results. As the new generation students are accustomed to emerging technologies, using technical digital tools for formative assessment can provide insight to the learning experience of students at real time. The tools can provide easier, adaptable and real time feedback to the assessor and the students. As there are a plethora of tools choosing suitable tool for specific course and learning environment is very important to have effective results and acceptance by all stakeholders. In this study, we are using electronic survey to compare some of the available tools (such as Kahoot, Quizlet and Quizizz) and recommends the suitable tools for networking courses at MIT, where most of the students are international students working part time and busy schedule. We have found that no single tool is suitable for all learning environment and effectiveness of tools depends upon a case by case basis.
