Abstract:

This poster demonstrates a process of engaging staff in blended learning development to enhance student engagement with the curriculum.
An example from a module is used to demonstrate how existing learning materials were developed into an online workbook. A series of discrete elements were harmonised employing a narrative throughout the workbook to produce a coherent and navigable whole for the students. This allowed students to study at a time, pace and place of their choosing.
The key elements are the E-framework robust IM/IT infrastructure and a tool called ‘Take 5’: a methodical stepped approach to generating a quality blended teaching and learning experience. Together these are necessary components in ensuring student engagement occurs.
This poster highlights the interrelatedness of these key elements by providing strategic collaboration (such as a whole school approach articulated in an e framework); developing Cooperation amongst staff (e.g. sharing learning); peer support (such as feedback mechanisms) and Communication between all stakeholders in the education experience (staff, student, service support). When in place this facilitates production and delivery of flexible, accessible and engaging student centred e-materials that are responsive to dynamic internal and external environments.
Concurrent feedback from students is an integral and interactive weekly feature of use of the workbook and this has demonstrated that the key objectives of the strategy are being achieved from a student perspective thus supporting an inspirational student experience.
