Abstract:
Other than the initial purpose of making a call, currently, mobile computing technology has become more popular with its facilities to access large number of World Wide Web (WWW) services and variety of available advanced featured and interactive mobile apps with better utilization of hardware functionalities. Based on this popularity, even a non-educated person has the capability of manipulating enhanced featured mobile device. If there is a capability of embedding such advanced and multi featured mobile technology in to the field of education, it will become a popular and fruitful effort in education enhancement among most of the students even who are bored with learning process, with the currently available teaching methods and resources. At present, in most of the educational institute, they facilitate the students with e learning methods such as Learning Management Systems where the teachers could upload learning materials such as notes, assignments, marks etc in it and students could access them. But with various mobile devices, students could not access such materials with ease. The purpose of this research work is, by solving the above issues, to facilitate the students with a mobile learning environment for distance learning by embedding the features and the resources of the currently available e learning resource in it.

In most of the educational institutes, since the student’s inability of attending to the live lectures, the lessons covered in the lectures could not be reached by all the students alike. Even though an active e-learning environments are there within such firms, due to various kinds of difficulties such as internet connection problems, compatibility issues with platforms, the students are unable to access the learning content on such virtual learning environments from anywhere at any time. Further, with the current development in mobile technology many students tend to access learning materials through various types of mobile devices. At present there are no learning materials that could be accessed on mobile devices with ease. Although the need is identified at the moment, there is no such mechanism initiated by those institutions to overcome from such issues exists with e learning environment.

The basic purpose of the project work is, for the students, even though they are not attending for the face to face lectures, facilitating them with an environment through which they could gain the maximum use of the lesson objectives just as in live lectures by allowing them to participate with the learning activities enthusiastically from anywhere anytime in the world.

In the system, the contents are developed at the server for the subjects under the degree programs. Based on the contents they have to publish on that, such as assignments, lesson contents etc, the mobile application provides a framework to develop learning materials in more interactive ways.

Due to the need to enabling the learners and the tutors to actively engage in an interactive learning process, suitable mobile Apps provide interactive components and feedback mechanisms. Due to the need to facilitate the learners at all times, even when the communication becomes difficult due to weak mobile signal strength, offline mechanisms were designed with the possibility of late synchronization. This research was done with the objective of providing the opportunity for all types of distance learners to engage in learning activities at any time anywhere.
