Abstract:
Teacher education being a significant investment for improving the quality of education can bring great revolutions and changes in the society. Quality can be assured by a mechanism and procedure of accreditation of teacher education. Accreditation is an assessment based formal judgment that the quality of a degree course or an institution meets certain standards. Higher education commission has established a council (ACTE) for ensuring quality at higher level and accreditation of teacher education programs in Pakistan. It has developed some standards for teacher education programs and set criteria for evaluation of teacher education departments. Main purpose of this study was to find out the level of accreditation of teacher education program offered by department of educational training & the difference among the levels of different standards of the training program at IUB (The Islamia University of Bahawalpur). Faculty members of the department of educational training were considered the sample of this study. Standardized Questionnaires developed by ACTE were used as tool of this study. Data were analyzed in terms of mean score under the criteria suggested by ACTE. The study revealed that overall department of educational training at level-III of accreditation along with some other important findings. Some suggestions have been made to improve the teacher education program at department of educational training, IUB.
