Abstract:

Ecuadorian universities have shown great interest in evaluating their performance in education through the indicators proposed by different international university rankings. The international rankings present different indicators that demonstrate the positions of the universities, one of the most prestigious being the Times Higher Education (THE) given that it is closely linked to the large transnational publication and circulation of scientific research (Thomson Reuter and Elsevier). This ranking evaluates the following criteria: reputation of universities according to academics, reputation according to businessmen, proportion of students among academic staff of the institutions, proportion of citations to articles in indexed journals among academic staff, proportion of foreign students, proportion of foreign academics . In 2023, there are 13 Ecuadorian universities present in the Times Higher Education Ranking, indicating the evolution that the Ecuadorian education system has had in recent years. The results obtained from the Biplot indicated that the largest number of universities that are in this ranking are located in the small cities of Ecuador, which allows us to infer that students who live on the peripheries of large cities or in small towns have access to international level university education.
