Abstract:
There are a number of social, economic, cultural and systemic causes resulting in non-enrolment, non-attendance and school drop-out among Roma children. According to my research the one of the most important factor preventing Roma children from attending and achieving in school is also bad command of official language.
Roma children and Polish children both have hurdles to overcome. For Roma children the hurdles are, for the most part, higher and more frequent—simply because they can not speak Polish.
In my presentation I would like to show results of my research conducted in primary schools in Wielkopolska (region of Poland) and present some ideas and teaching methods which could be helpful to integrate Roma children into the general education system.
