Abstract:
Various forms of new media including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have radically changed the global field of communications. Social media narrowed earlier forms of analog and print information systems while giving its users more power and control over how and when news consumers receive information and decide what is news. Social media altered traditional forms of news gathering, reporting, and news agenda setting in recent world events from the Arab Spring to the 2016 American presidential campaign.

Social media narrowed earlier forms of analog and print information systems while giving its users more power and control over how and when news consumers receive information and decide what is news.

This research examines changes in news gathering and delivery focusing on social media: exploring ways that we consume and produce the news, from creating online presence to altering the news agenda setting function that enables the reporting of the stories consumed.
