Abstract:
The article deals with implementation of ECTS at Akaki Tsereteli State University, challenges and perspectives. Since 2008, ATSU has been using ECTS in all the study programmes. Though, it was a challenge to convince the staff to convert existing programmes into ECTS based ones.

Taking into account this fact, ATSU Quality Assurance Service came to the idea to have a look at ECTS distribution along the programmes. For this purpose, ATSU Quality Assurance Service team did the literature review about how student workload is counted, designed the methodology, created e-programme, prepared special handbook for teachers, conducted trainings for the students and teachers, created a base for students’ weekly questioners and started implementing the project, piloting it on the one-step Medical programme Medicine+PBL. The time spend by average student taking the course to achieve an average grade was measured. Considering the fact that today professors, programme coordinators and students are more aware of credit system, learning outcomes, programme aims, assessment system and the need of harmonization of above mentioned components of the programme it is easier to disseminate the results gained on other study programmes as well.

The article presents the results of above mentioned project and shows the challenges and perspectives of using ECTS at ATSU.
