Abstract:
Corpora and text book design is an attempt to shed light on the importance of the uses of electronic corpora such as the British National Corpus (BNC) or/and the American National Corpus (or other English corpora) in the design of the official English text books for English non native speakers.
The study will also focus mainly on the methodology used in order to adopt such powerful tools in the text book design and the necessary parts needed to be exploited in this process which consists on the design of a pedagogical support for pupils and students in order to learn English as a foreign language. Frequencies, concordances and collocations, easy words, most frequent expressions…will be merely exploited to reach very best results.
At the end, we try to discuss the main advantages of the uses of electronic corpora in the text book design and their impacts on the learning process; a short comparison will be made between these techniques and the traditional ones.
