Abstract:
Due to the process of modernisation of the system of higher professional education in Russia, universities have started to implement the distance learning and blended learning approach to teaching, which allows for flexibility, interactivity, individualisation and internationalisation of learning. In this case, a teacher should possess new skills and competences that will ensure teaching quality and effective learning outcomes. In this paper, we address Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competences regarded as significant for achieving pedagogical excellence when teaching in a virtual learning environment (VLE). We report on how these competences can be assessed through an online course using the 360-degree method. As an example, we use the online course «Petroleum Engineering» designed for bachelor and master degree students as part of their training within the programme “Management”. The approach applied proves to be a reliable means of comprehensive assessment of teacher’s ICT competences.
