Abstract:
In order to bring students into contact with the world of work, the faculty of Engineering of Gipuzkoa, EIG, offers them the chance of developing their end-of-degree projects in companies and as participants in competitions promoted by public and private entities. Going far beyond the academic part, last year four end-of-degree projects were developed within the framework of a research project funded by the University of the Basque Country, UPV/EHU, in the knowledge-based urbanism and sustainability. The objective of the project was to carry out the environmental evaluation of the four campuses of the UPV/EHU (Donostia, Eibar, Leioa-Bilbao and Gasteiz) by using a new tool developed by Nobatek and Tecnalia (Technology Corporations), NEST, Neighbourhood Evaluation for Sustainable Territories, to assess environmental impacts of neighbourhoods. This experience allowed to the students , on the one hand, to know the scientific methodology and the working dynamics used in a collaborative research project, and on the other hand, to train in a new area of work with a great future: sustainable urban design.
