Abstract:
In July 1983, a linguistic scientific conference was held in Beijing with the participation of Chinese and American teachers. The article touches upon the issues on the exchange of experiences in the field of teaching and theoretical research. A joint research program was specified where six grammatical futures of the Chinese language were discussed, namely: 了le, 着zhe, 过guo, 是 ... 的shì ... de, 在zài, 呢ne. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the most essential difficulties that foreign students normally face when learning the Chinese language. The task was subsequently entrusted to the women’s team of Chinese and American professors-linguists Zheng Yide郑懿德, Ma Sheng Jingheng马盛静恒, Liu Yuehua 刘月华 and Yang Jiarong 杨甲荣. The research and development that lasted 5 years resulted in the publication of the book “Hanyu yufa nandian shiyi” (汉语语法难点释疑, “Explaining the difficulties of the grammar of the Chinese language”). The book includes theoretical explanations, many practical examples and exercises with parallel translation into English. The book has provided sufficient materials for the article at issue.

At the present time the study of the Chinese language is globally on the rise due to a great economic success, as well as the promotion of cultural values. Teaching the Chinese as a foreign language to foreign as well as Russian students poses a dilemma in many respects . The provision of high quality teaching material is a task of vital importance. The novelty of the article is that the authors ascertain reasons why foreign learners make mistakes and provide a clear explanation of how to avoid them. The authors put a strong focus on the particle/ suffix了 le.
