Abstract:
The aim of the study is to make a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results of two parallel measurements for determining the manifestation of cognitive styles, polar-dependent and polar-independent, in training pupils in information technology through multimedia learning environment and to formulate an approach to improve the environment as adaptive.

The following methods are used to achieve this goal:
• Quantitative and qualitative analysis of a questionnaire completed by students through which they themselves have defined their cognitive style;
• Quantitative and qualitative analysis of an observation by which teachers identify cognitive styles of pupils;

In conclusion we discuss possible approaches for adapting multimedia learning environment based on cognitive styles - polar-dependent and polar-independent.
