Abstract:
The birth of the European Higher Education Area and the Bolonia agreements cannot be understood today without considering gender studies. In this paper we present an educative innovative experience that is taking place in the Education School at the Universidad de Cantabria, within the framework of a teaching innovation project sponsored by the Vice Rectorate for Academic Planning and Teaching Staff.
The main goal of this project has been to introduce higher education students to the key knowledge about the sex-gender system in order to raise their awareness towards discrimination between men and women. Also, this project aims to offer strategies to fight against inequality within the educational and professional context of our students, as a way to integrate it in society in the larger sense.
In order to accomplish this goal, we carried out a first basic formative activity suitable for students specializing in any major. The contents of this activity are focused on the sex-gender system, as stated above. This first intervention is accessible on line and is open for any member of the University of Cantabria. On a second part, this intervention also entitles debates and talks recorded from the research staff of the project, and a recommended list of readings and audiovisual materials, with the idea to serve as a complement of the initial formation. We have also included a questionnaire that is taken before the whole intervention and after. That would allow us to measure the general knowledge of students in this topic and the effectiveness of the intervention.
To sum up, we could say that this project wants to deepen into the less evident attitudes, beliefs and behaves that gender discrimination still has in our society with the hope that students will become more conscious about this reality. Keywords:
