Abstract:
The strategies periodically used to assess student achievement in the different courses are knowledge assessments that do not reflect the achievement of the course competencies developed for the students since traditionally professors use assessment tests for this purpose. Even these days we live in a digital age of constant growth online exams are used for the evaluation of student learning.
The evaluation of knowledge, whether online or on paper, is traditionally used to evaluate the competencies of the course, even if it usually does not reflect the degree of achievement of competencies of the students since these evaluations are basically for specific topics and do not of the acquisition of the competences that the course must generate.
Students' current learning styles require consideration of the use of models that support and promote students' motivation for learning and the development of their creative thinking skills for developing competencies in different topics of the courses.
Disciplinary competencies are the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that consider the minimum necessary for each disciplinary field for students to develop effectively in different contexts.
The specific objective of this study is to verify that disciplinary competencies could be generated within Computer Science courses without having traditional knowledge assessments. The result of this research showed that excellent disciplinary competencies can be generated using other strategies where students feel more comfortable because it is a style more appropriate to the reality that they visualize in today's world. Keywords:
