Abstract:
Given the rapidly changing dynamics of the world, challenge-based education for higher education students has gained special relevance. This paper describes the proposal made to first semester undergraduate students to design and build a sound sculpture from the circular movement of a motor; the sound sculpture must have certain attributes, which were considered in the decision processes.
The method followed to carry out this challenge was based on some new product design tools proposed by Ulrich and Eppinger as the concept generation and selection processes.
The final products delivered by the students were evaluated based on some criteria where a third of the projects were observed to have very outstanding results; other projects were consistent with their CAD design, others faced difficulties in manufacturing; In the same way, the perception of the students regarding creativity and the relevance of the process followed in carrying out the challenge and in the learning obtained was measured. Keywords:
