Abstract:
We live an era in which ICTs have become an essential part of the various areas of society and have transformed processes such as relations, development and management in all ways. In social terms, they have modified people’s lifestyle: the way of doing things, of relating, communicating, informing and training for a productive life. We all need to become ICT literate in order to develop adequately, to find and maintain a job, to relate to others and to understand the world today.
In this paper I will briefly review the classical concept of literacy and its similarities with digital literacy, as well as its importance as an essential component of personal and social development in today’s world.
On the other hand, I ground ideas with specific examples, describing some successful aspects of the literacy program developed at the UNAM: the h@bitat program and its Training Program in particular. I also describe a small part of the actions developed by the program to attend the human and social dimensions involved in actions that seek to generate transformation processes in people.
