Abstract:
In the Defense University Center of Marín (Spain), attached to University of Vigo, the degree of Mechanical Engineering is taught. Due to Covid crisis, several subjects have had to adapt their method of teaching to an on-line way. In addition, it was necessary to develop an improvised method, that has not been planned at the beginning of the course, resulting in an additional handicap. The adaptation presented in this abstract was carried out in the subject of Environmental Technology. It was mainly focused in switching the theoretical and practical lessons from a face-to-face model to remote learning; however, other factors, such as the continuous assessment, the final exams and student’s attendance formed part of this difficult adaptation, too. For instance, the monitoring of students while they were examined in final assessment involved a technical and logistical complexity. All of them were carried out through the use of virtual platforms. In this case Adobe Connect and a University’s own platform called “Campus Remoto” were used as surveillance and direct communication tools, and finally a Learning Platform based on Moodle was used. The results indicate that the percentage of students that passed the subject was on average similar to previous years, suggesting that the adaptation methodology was appropriate. This paper shows the mode of implementation, the results and the discussion from the teachers’ point of view.
