Abstract:
Construction sector has a lot to contribute to 20-20-20 objectives. Nevertheless, according to recent studies, workers of this sector seem not to be prepared to performance according to energy efficiency criteria. To fill this gap, Intelligent Energy Europe has launched Build Up Skills, an initiative managed by the European Commission’s Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) that funded national teams with the aim of boosting the training on-site workers in the building sector on the topics of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

In the first phase of this programme (2011-2013), the Spanish team, coordinated by Labour Foundation for Construction, identified specific training needs and elaborated a National Roadmap including 29 training actions to consecutively put into practice.

On this basis, 19 actions were prioritized to carry on within Build Up Skills-second stage (2014-2016). Two of these actions encouraged the development of Training resources for biomass installation and geothermal installation. Then experts made it bigger, integrating those contents in an all-inclusive view related to the energetic aspects to take into account for an on-site worker to renovate a building. As a result, the partnership implemented the Construye 2020 app that was launched in March 2015.

This format aims to contribute to the training scenario innovation and to be useful both as a tool for trainers as well as for self-study. It drives through five key sections – energy efficiency, external carpentry, renewable energies, insulation and efficient installations - with technical content, tips for carrying out the work, practical exercises and good practises.

Three baseline factors led the elaboration of this training tool, so that it should: a) Answer the worker’s training needs, what was identified in the Build Up first-stage; b) Be designed according to pedagogical needs, undertaking by illustrating technical concepts in a friendly framework; c) Innovation, making a didactic tool available for mobile devices.

The present paper deals with the above mentioned process in detail, addressing the context of the tool, the main concepts present throughout the drafting, methodology of work and description of contents and didactic factors included within the five sections in which Construye 2020 app is divided.
