Abstract:
There is a controversy about the academic results that entails the use of Facebook. For this reason the aim of this paper is to analyze the literature on Facebook to know the conclusions of the works about its influence on academic results. We want not only to understand if students get better grades, or if teachers are more successful and they can get better results from their students, but also to comprehend if, more generally, Facebook can create an enhanced environment in the field of education. Through a review of 37 articles on this subject we will analyze which journals publish more on the impact of Facebook on academic results, which is the methodology used to collect information, what topics emerge parallel to the use of Facebook in Academia and which countries are most prolific in the subject. The findings suggest that despite the divergent results the balance is positive about using Facebook in Academia. We think this work can be a basis of study for those researchers who delve into this subject, but especially for teachers who are experiencing on the use of Facebook in Academia.
