Abstract:
In response to the evolving educational landscape catalyzed by the digital transformation of the 21st century, engineering education faces the imperative of adopting innovative pedagogical approaches to effectively convey complex subject matter. This necessitates the integration of digital tools and platforms to augment traditional teaching methodologies. Addressing this need, this study embarks on the development of a comprehensive learning platform, accessible across the university, to facilitate self-directed learning among engineering students. Concurrently, a digital teaching platform is designed to advance contemporary teaching practices and assessment methods.
Central to this endeavor is the methodological framework, which unfolds through four iterative stages:
1. The identification and adaptation of an appropriate theoretical framework for the learning platform, drawing upon a review of literature and insights garnered from seasoned educators.
2. The deliberate selection and seamless integration of diverse learning elements—such as remote laboratory facilities, quiz applications, simulation platforms, and examination interfaces—within the overarching framework.
3. The systematic deployment of the framework and associated learning elements across targeted courses and curricula, with particular emphasis on six courses within the sustainable engineering program.
4. The rigorous evaluation of the framework's efficacy through an array of quantitative and qualitative measures, encompassing learning outcomes assessment, participant engagement analysis, and utilization metrics of the learning platform.
This methodological approach not only seeks to optimize the learning experience for engineering students but also endeavors to cultivate digital literacy skills and refine pedagogical strategies. The findings of this study contribute valuable insights into the efficacy of digital learning platforms within engineering education, thus informing future educational practices and technological integration strategies in academia. Keywords:
