Abstract:
For years, event management education has been developed in the context of tourism. However, the growing development of specific research on event management, as well as the growing demand for specific training, has led to the autonomy of the courses' study plans. This framework has allowed to include in the curricular plans topics resulting from the reflection on different types of challenges that are posed to those who manage events in the real world nowadays.

In this sense, the aim of this paper is to discuss the role of gender in event management education and present strategies to frame future event managers within this issue and make them aware of the impact that they might have in gender stereotypes construction and reproduction.

Based on the analysis of data from 56 semi-structured interviews with corporate event managers and customers, the areas where gender implications in event management are most relevant are identified: recruitment and selection of event managers and staff; planning and production; leadership; and communication.
This analysis also allows the identification of topics and adequate pedagogical strategies to bring education in event management closer to the 5th 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, that is gender equality.
