Abstract:
Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetic (BF) is a subject exclusively taught in the Pharmacy degree, thus standing as one of the disciplines that define the profession across all its specializations offering students a comprehensive understanding of drug behavior in the human body. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, these subjects empower future pharmacists with the skills needed to optimize drug efficacy and minimize adverse effects. The study's outcomes underscore the influential role of BF in shaping students' professional trajectories, contributing to a nuanced comprehension of pharmaceutical science and practice. A survey was conducted among pharmacy undergraduates (n=19) to examine the influence of the course on career choices. Notably, 47% of respondents reported a significant impact on their professional preferences. Subsequent analysis revealed a noteworthy shift in career aspirations, with a 15% decrease in the intention to pursue the hospital pharmacy and a remarkable 26% increase in interest towards the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, there was a shift away from research-focused career goals, with a decline from 16% to 5%. Students with a vocation for working in a community pharmacy remained steady at 11%. These findings shed light on the dynamic relationship between educational content and career aspirations. The knowledge of BF is crucial for pharmacists when making career decisions, both in the pharmaceutical formulation (pharmaceutical industry) and in the clinical and healthcare setting (hospital pharmacy and community pharmacy), as well as in research. It becomes evident that this subject not only defines the pharmacy profession but also molds the future pharmacists equipped to optimize drug efficacy and navigate diverse career paths.
